We will have morning practice instead of afternoon tomorrow 12/18/09. 6am to 7:30am.

Holiday practice starts next week from 9am-11:30am MTWTh.

We will not practice on Fridays.

Be prepared with athletic wear to every workout. No UGG boots or sandals, we will be doing a lot of dryland so be sure you have the proper shoes and clothes as well as swim gear.

No morning practice for the rest of the week

It seems like we have had as many games as we have practices. I am very pleased with everyone's progress.

No morning for the rest of the week.

Holiday break I am expecting everyone there. This is a very important time of the season. We need to improve on those little mistakes that we are making.

Remember the team that commits the the least mistakes wins.

Great 1st half of the season, we are 8-5! A couple of simple changes, a few calls, and we can easily be 12-1 maybe 13-0!

Will begin off season training, Monday December 7, 2009.

PRACTICE TIMES:

MON-THURS

FS/JV: 6pm-7:30pm w/ Coach Drew Vyn

VARSITY: 7:30PM-9PM w/ Coach Steve Carrera

WEIGHTS WILL BE ON TUESDAY/THURSDAY FROM 7PM-8PM (We will be getting in the water after weights until 9pm)

We will be implementing a weight training program with Juggernaut Training Systems. Their personal trainers will be coming to our Northwood facilities.


The cost will be

$275 for 12 weeks with an additional cost of $75 a month for weight training.

Weights will be mandatory for Varsity and open to F/S JV.

Girls Snack Bar Sign Ups

A message from Mrs. Flath:

Hello Water Polo Girls and Parents,

Can you believe we are already in season?! Our first game will soon be here!

Please find attached a schedule of Home games and Snack Bar sign-up times. For Season and League games we will need two parents for each shift, and for the JV Tournament we will need at least one parent for each shift and Ed will assign the girls times to work as well. I will need a JV parent to help me out with snack bar for home games held at the same time as away Varsity games. Please let me know if you are available :-)

Also, we will continue the tradition of a Pasta Party the Tuesday before Wednesday League games, immediately following practice. There is a schedule attached for that as well if you would like to host one. They are a lot of fun, and the girls really enjoy getting together like this.

Lastly, please send in your $25 snack bar donation this week, no later than Wednesday. The girls can give the money to Allie or Nicole at practice.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Thursday and Friday quarters will be 6 minute stop time
with one full time out and one 20 second time out per game.
Any overtime, because of ties will be sudden victory.
Saturday will be regulation time, 2 full time outs/game and
one 20 second time out and sudden victory. Championship
game will be a regulation game. All teams will provide their
own balls and hats. The top team listed on the bracket will
be the home team and wear dark hats. Dark team sits to the
right of the scoring table to start the game. Since you might
be playing 2 games the same day, bring both sets of hats. We
cannot provide individual lockers, so please be responsible
for your own valuables. All teams will play 5 games. It is the
responsibility of each team to provide their own scorekeeper.

Practice Friday Morning for all levels

All levels will practice Friday 9/18/09 from 6am to 7:30am, there will be NO AFTERNOON PRACTICE. As some of you may know Coach Drew and myself are coaches at Concordia University Irvine and Coach Donny is a player, we are traveling tomorrow afternoon.

Girls Northwood Fall Classic Oct 10, 11

Girls will be in the Northwood Fall Classic, Oct 10 and 11. SAT's are on that Saturday so the tournament is starting later. We will have schedules and times as we get closer to the tournament date.

Concordia University Irvine is in the prestiges Norcal Tournament this weekend, there 1st round games are against UCLA and UCSD on Saturday. Many Northwood Alumni will be playing in this tournament including:

Travis Noll (Stanford University), Derek Wiebe-Bailey (Long Beach State), Caleb Hamilton (Concordia University Irvine) Jon Colton (Loyola Maramount University).

Girls Off Season Training

The off season training for the girls is not a high school related program. It is club water polo. The fee is not going to the high school it is going directly to the club.

High School Girls will practice from 6pm-7:30pm TWTh, The cost is $200, made out to Northwood Water Polo. Coach Duje is the off season coach, he is a current Concordia University Irvine water polo player with a great understanding of the game.

On Wed 9/9/09 NHS VARSITY will have an official scrimmage against FOUNTAIN VALLEY at NHS. F/S JV will attend, and learn to run shot clocks, keep statistics, and overall setup for home games. Everyone will arrive at 2pm. Scrimmage will begin at appox. 2:45pm

This Wednesday Varsity will practice from 6am to 10pm. 1 hour in the weight room and 3 hours in the pool. No afternoon practice for Wed.

School Registration and more please read

School registration for athletes is on Monday August 31st (read below). All levels will practice at 2pm only.

Monday 8/31 @ 7:30 am- priority registration for athletes and marching band (all grade levels)


Wednesday 9/2 @ 7 am- priority hearing and vision screening for all sophomore athletes and marching band. Please have ALL SOPHOMORES go to the hearing and vision screening before practice. They will have their hand stamped upon return.

PARKING
On Monday and Tuesday they will be resurfacing the blacktop in the parking lots. They will be doing one section at a time starting at the front of the school on Monday. The catch is that the gate and entrance to the front of the school will be closed. Have your athletes come in to school off of Wolf Trail. They may also park on Wolf Trail if need be.

Navy Seal Training Day

Navy Seals camp will be held on Friday at Woollett from 9am-12pm. Varsity will have normal workout from 6am to 8am and caravan over to Woollett.

F/S JV will meet at Woollett at 8:45am and be done at 12pm.

Sick Days/missing practice

THIS SEASON: Vyn enters his final season at USC as a dangerous lefty with speed and skill on the perimeter as well as strong defensive abilities.

2006: Vyn put up 22 goals in his first season at USC... Scored in 13 games with six multiple-goal efforts... Had three hat tricks (vs. Santa Clara, Pomona-Pitzer, UC Santa Cruz).

AT GOLDEN WEST: Vyn helped Golden West to conference and Southern California crowns in 2004 and 2005... Scored 132 goals and had 84 assists at Golden West... Earned all-conference first team honors both seasons.

HIGH SCHOOL: Vyn recorded 137 goals, 76 steals and 27 assists as a senior at Irvine High... Holds school's all-time scoring record with 265 goals... Named to All-CIF First Team as a senior and earned honorable mention as a junior... An all-league first-teamer as a senior and junior... Plays club for South Pacific Coast.

Northwood Girls Water Polo Alumni.  Was the team captain

winter 2009.  She was named 1st team all Sea View League her

junior and senior years.  Paige was a 2 year NHS girls MVP and

was named to the All Irvine City Team 2009 by the Irvine World

News.  

Paige also led the timberwolves to the most successful season in NHS girls water polo history.

Excpectations

Player Conduct:

No player will miss practice.  

If practice is missed it will result in 20 x 100yd freestyle, on my desired interval.

If you are sick you will be excpected to be at practice and sit, assist the coach, and/or listen to instructions and game plans/strategies.

Player will NOT miss games.

Players will be respectful towards coaches, officials, parents, and opponents at all times.

There will be no foul language used at any time.

If players have issues, questions, problems, I want to hear the issues from them and not their parents.  I want an open line of communication from all players.

Parent Conduct:

Parents will act in a positive and encouraging manner.

Parents will be in the stands away from officials and will not address them.

There will be no coaching from the stands.

Parents will not approach the bench during games.

Summer camp starts tomorrow.

16u Team JO Qualifiers

The 16u boys lost there 1st game to Newport Water Polo Foundation 7-5 at this weekends JO qualifiers. Coach Steve said that the team was in the game until about 2 min left. Qualified Teams

Congratulations to the 10u coed, 12u boys and girls, 14u boys. They all qualified for the Junior Olympics in San Jose this year at the end of July.

Also, congratulations to all the coaches that have done an awesome job with the groups! Coach Jure Belamaric Sebastian Cordoba who coach the 12u boys. Coach Tyler Simmons who coaches the 10u coed team with me, and coach Caleb Hamilton who coaches the 14u boys, and took 4th in the regional event!

As well as Coach Steve Carrera (12u girls) and Coach Steve Simmons (12u girls), who did a great job beating some very strong opponents!!!

We are the ONLY CLUB in IRVINE that qualified.  Irvine Kahuna didn't qualify any teams, proving we are the premiere water polo club in Irvine.

Great Job everyone and parents thanks for your support, we could never have done this without you!!!
